In our context, they were times of outright enmity between figurative and abstract artists, as irreconcilable as if they were Montagues and Capulets. We, Macció, de la Vega, Ernesto Deira—who we had met a year before my first show—and I, had been consolidating our position as the synthesis of a dialectic process. Our enthusiasm and faith in the fact that we were gestating something important was contagious among us. Although he believed that our interest in recuperating the figurative was a step backward, Greco supported us in our experimental attitude—precisely for being experimental—because in that, he was an example for us. I manifested this last point in the introduction for an exhibition that we organized in homage of him five years after he committed suicide in Barcelona in October 1965.
